We leave the coast and tour west to historic Ross, south through Oatlands, Richmond famous for antique and craft shops. Then on to Hobart for four nights. Free time to visit Salamance markets, Botanical Gardens or cruise on the river. Weather permitting, we’ll enjoy a drive up to Mt. Wellington and spectacular views over Hobart and Derwent River. We travel back in time today through Sorell to Copping Colonial Convict Exhibition, across the infamous Eaglehawk Neck, view rugged coastline and the Blow Hole, Devil’s Kitchen and Tasman Arch before arriving at historic Port Arthur for a tour of the colony and cruise around the Isle of the Dead. Chocoholics beware! Off to the Cadbury’s Chocolate Factory for a guided tour (with lots of samples!!!) and then back to nature with a fascinating tour of the Huon Valley, cradle of the Tasmanian apple growing industry. On through Huonville to Geeveston and the Forest and Heritage Centre, then on to the Tahune Forest Airwalk—a spectacular canopy walkway with a bird’s eye view of the Hartz Mountains, Picton and Huon Rivers. You may like a flutter at the Casino this evening! Off to Mount Field National Park today where we take a walk beneath a canopy of the world’s tallest flowering plants, Eucalyptus Regnans, to the beautiful cascading Russell Falls. Then we climb the Central Plateau (in the bus!) to the Tarraleah Lookout to view the massive hydro electric station. We see Lake St Clair and Nelson Falls on our way to Queenstown and Strahan. Here we’ll cruise across Macquarie Harbour through Hells Gates and enjoy the beautiful waters of the Gordon River (buffet lunch included) Optional tour on Wilderness Rail back to Queenstown. After your flight to Cairns, we’ll have a town tour before checking in to our Hotel. The next day takes us to the World Heritage listed Daintree— 2 hours north of Cairns along one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the world. The scenery is unparalleled—sparkling azure blue waters contrast dramatically with the lush green of the tropical rainforest. Here we’ll enjoy a river cruise with croc spotting on the Daintree Rainforest River Train and a visit to the Daintree Discovery Centre. You’ll love the scenery south of Cairns when we visit Paronella Park. We then travel west via Mareeba the largest town on the Atherton Tablelands. When we arrive in Chillagoe, we hire a local guide to show us the limestone caves, learn about the rich mining history, visit the marble quarries and hear all about outback characters. After our overnight stay in Mareeba we head north to Cooktown on the Cooktown Development Road via the Lion’s Den Hotel which has enjoyed a rich history since 1875. Our visit to Cooktown includes an Endeavour River Cruise, Nature’s Power House in Cooktown Botanic Gardens, James Cook Historical Museum, Cooktown Cemetery and Chinese Shrine, the Milibi Wall, Mrs. Watson’s Memorial, Captain Cook Monument and Cannon. On our way back from Cooktown, we visit the Mareeba Wetlands, the Tinaroo Dam, Atherton, Yungaburra and overnight in Malanda. We’ll visit Ravenshoe, the Millstream Falls, Millaa Millaa Falls and the crater before traveling on to Townsville. There’ll be a visit to Reef HQ in Townsville and a stop off in Airlie Beach on our way to Mackay. A tour of the Port of Gladstone is included next day before we head home to the Sunshine Coast. Join us as we travel to St. George and then to the beautiful Rosehill Aviaries before arriving in Cunnamulla. Enjoy a town tour with the local tourist officer and then a trip to Eulo the next day where we visit the mud springs and a date farm & winery and the General Store with wonderful arts and crafts. Included is lunch at the Eulo Queen Hotel where we learn about the famous Isabel Robinson from Mauritius who was called the Eulo Queen.
